Yannick Bestaven winner of the Vendée Globe

In the early hours of January 28, Yannick Bestaven won the 9th Vendée Globe on Maître Coq.The skipper crossed the finishing line of his solo sail round the world unassisted in third position, behind Charlie Dalin and Louis Burton.The time credited for his involvement in rescuing Kevin Escoffier led to him being named the overall winner of the 2020-2021 Vendée Globe.




It is always an incredible moment when a skipper finishes the Vendée Globe, even at night.  

There were no big crowds this year, but it was as emotional as always!

YANNICK BESTAVEN WINS

Bestaven reached the port of Les Sables D'olonne in the dark at roughly 4.20 am. He crossed the finishing line after 80 days, 03 hours, 44 minutes and 46 seconds in the race.

CHARLIE DALIN, THE FIGARO RACER CROSSED THE FINISHING LINE FIRST

The skipper of Apivia crossed the finishing line on Wednesday at 20:35, after 80 days 06 hours and 15 minutes at sea. The sailor started his career in offshore racing on the Figaro BENETEAU circuit, winning the title of French Elite Single-handed Offshore Racing Champion twice, in 2014 and 2016. 

LOUIS BURTON, 3RD IN THE 2020 - 2021 VENDÉE GLOBE

The 35-year-old skipper from St Malo overcame many technical difficulties throughout the race, putting in a great performance. The accompanying boats met his IMOCA Bureau Vallée 2 in a big swell at around midnight. His race time was 80 days, 10 hours and 25 minutes.

JEAN LE CAM, A HERO TO THE PUBLIC

The skipper of Yes We Cam finished 4th in the overall ranking. He has entered the Vendée Globe four times in all, and over this time the old seadog became known as “Roi Jean” (King John).  On 30 November 2020, he rerouted to rescue Kevin Escoffier, the skipper of PRB, off the coast of South Africa. This made him the hero of this 9th Vendée Globe.

BORIS HERRMANN, 1ST GERMAN SAILOR TO ENTER THE VENDÉE GLOBE

Just a few hours from Les Sables d’Olonne and his final victory, Boris Herrmann hit a fishing boat. He could have been the first sailor from abroad to win a podium place in the Vendée Globe, but fate was to decide otherwise. He finished 5th in the overall ranking with his IMOCA Seaexplorer - Yacht Club de Monaco.

CLARISSE CREMER BECOMES THE FASTEST WOMAN TO SAIL THE VENDÉE GLOBE

Full of smiles, Clarisse Crémer became the fastest female skipper to sail the Vendée Globe race, breaking the record Ellen MacArthur set 20 years ago.  Her boat crossed the finish line in Les Sables d'Olonne after 87 days, 2 hours and 24 minutes. She finishes in an excellent 12th place in her 1st round the world.
